But there are also many reasons why everyone should hope that a way can be found to make it happen.

More than two million Palestinian residents of Gaza are living in the most hellish conditions, which include severe illness and terrible misery, and just as importantly, Israelis also have valid reasons to worry about Hamas because of what happened on October 7.

However, there are a number of conditions in this regard.

This depends on whether Israel agrees to leave the Gaza Strip, while in fact what they have been doing during this time has been increasing their control over it.

The Israeli government has not issued an official response to this, despite reports published yesterday about progress in negotiations in Cairo; but Netanyahu’s office, in a statement that it issued from the Prime Minister’s Office, poured cold water on the entire process.

Elections will be held in Israel in October, and the overall thrust of this country’s political spectrum is currently very right-leaning—meaning, in other words, opposed to granting concessions to Palestinians.

So there are many reasons why this plan may not become workable.
