🔻The death of Sulemane Abdul-Samad, the tallest man in Ghana, sparked a wave of grief and sorrow, especially in the north of this country.

The 33-year-old man died on Monday in a hospital in Tamale, a northern city about 160 kilometers south of his birthplace, Gambana village. He had been hospitalized there due to an infection in the wounds on his feet.

One of his relatives told the BBC: “Everyone knew how generous and kind he was. Since his death, even until now, many people have been going to his home to find out exactly what happened.”

Informed sources told the BBC that his leg injuries were not caused by Marfan syndrome.

After being affected by a giant-like illness in his 20s, his height was measured by the BBC at 223 centimeters in late 2022. He likely became even taller before his death.

His nickname was “Aovche,” which in Hausa means “let’s go.” He had long been struggling with complications of Marfan syndrome. This genetic disorder causes hands and feet to grow beyond normal size.

Mr. Abdul-Samad had difficulty paying for his medical expenses, but recently a wealthy merchant had taken on the costs of his treatment.
