A video by an eyewitness on the Santa Cruz coast in California shows moments when 16-year-old rookie lifeguard Ryder Williams saves a 10-year-old boy from the clutches of the ocean’s violent waves in the waters off Seabright Beach.

The child had been pulled more than 13 meters into the sea, when Williams reached him. Several other people present on the beach also stepped in to help with the rescue. The operation lasted just over two minutes.

After this incident, U.S. President Donald Trump invited Williams to go to the White House to receive one of the highest civilian honors.
