Donald Trump, President of the United States, said in a telephone conversation with the Financial Times that he is not sure whether he will allow Ukraine to produce missiles for the Patriot air defense system. He also announced that his envoys, Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, will travel to Ukraine for the first time in the coming days.

Trump’s remarks come as Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine, had previously said that Trump agreed to issue the necessary permits for the production of Patriot missiles in Ukraine.

Zelensky, who had met with Trump in Washington on Tuesday, emphasized that the systems and anti-ballistic defense missiles remain Ukraine’s most important military needs.

Earlier, during the NATO summit in Ankara, Trump had told Volodymyr Zelensky: “We will give you permission to build the Patriot. I think that as soon as we provide the necessary details, they can start producing them very quickly.”

Trump also said that he has not yet informed the American defense equipment companies, Lockheed Martin and Raytheon, of his decision, but added: “This matter will also be resolved.”
