🔶UN: 800,000 Lebanese displaced people are returning to their homes

The United Nations, in a statement, has announced the start of the return of more than 800,000 displaced Lebanese from the war in Lebanon to their homes, following the easing of violence between Israel and Hezbollah.

The statement was published on Tuesday, August 4, coinciding with the start of a new round of US-backed talks between Lebanon and Israel in Rome; the aim of which is to end the fighting, and which is expected to continue until Thursday.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) says that, by July 30, 821,077 people have moved to their main areas of residence. However, more than 360,000 people are still displaced, and around 26,000 of them are housed in government shelters.

In March, Hezbollah Lebanon brought Lebanon into a wider war in the Middle East by firing rockets at Israel in support of its ally, Iran.
