🔶 The United States sanctions ships and companies associated with Iran’s “shadow fleet”
The U.S. Treasury Department announced on Wednesday, October 21 (29 Mehr), that as part of the “economic expulsion” operation, it has imposed sanctions on five individuals, four companies and institutions, as well as nine ships associated with the Islamic Republic of Iran’s “shadow fleet.”
The U.S. Treasury Department said the individuals, ships, and institutions were sanctioned for helping to transport and conceal Iranian cargo.
According to a statement by the ministry, one of the companies that has now been added to the sanctions list is the legal firm “Karnakis and Karnakis,” which operates in Greece and Panama and, by registering shell companies and concealing the real owners of ships, has helped facilitate the transfer of hundreds of millions of dollars in Iranian oil, petrochemical products, and steel.
The firm is also accused of setting up a network of companies linked to Seyyed Asadollah Imamjomeh, a gas merchant in Iran, and to liquid gas.
