🔶 Pakistani official: Islamabad actively pursues backchannel diplomacy to reduce tensions

A senior Pakistani official told the Guardian on Monday, August 3 (12 Mordad), that despite the current deadlock in negotiations between the United States and America, Islamabad is still actively engaged in backchannel diplomacy to reduce tensions between Tehran and Washington. The official also emphasized that Pakistan’s proposal to facilitate talks between the two sides “remains in force.”

Citing this senior Pakistani official, whose identity was not disclosed, the Guardian reported that Asim Munir, the commander of the Pakistan Army, in the context of efforts to prevent an escalation of tensions in the region, has maintained close contact with senior U.S. officials including J.D. Vance, the deputy to Trump, and other figures.

The informed source said that Field Marshal Munir has been in touch with Vance and Steve Witkoff, the United States’ special envoy, and has held “serious and substantive” discussions with them that “focused on regional stability and reducing tensions.”
