📸 How can we stay safe from infections near the coast and in the pool during the summer?
European experts warn that as sea water, rivers, and coastal areas grow warmer, conditions for the growth of some bacteria become more favorable, increasing the risk of infections such as “vibriosis,” “swimmer’s ear,” and certain gastrointestinal and skin diseases.
Although the overall risk of these infections is still considered low, experts recommend that people with open wounds avoid swimming in warm waters, wash their wounds with clean water after swimming, and avoid consuming shellfish and raw seafood.
Researchers say that with continued warming of the waters, the range over which these bacteria spread could also increase.
