🔶 Warning about the rise of extremist currents in Germany

Hendrik Wüst, prime minister of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and one of the senior figures of Germany’s Christian Democratic Union, warned at a meeting of the youth organization of the Christian Democratic and Christian Social parties in the city of Bonn about the growing influence of extremist political currents and said that Germany is in a “serious situation.”

Wüst criticized the negotiations among the Left Party, the Greens, and the Social Democratic Party to form a state government in Berlin. These talks began after the Left Party’s victory in the Berlin elections.

He said that the effort to bring the Left Party to power in the capital of Germany “is a source of shame.” Wüst also claimed that antisemitism has penetrated widely into the structure of the Berlin branch of the Left Party.

The Christian Democratic Union politician urged the Social Democratic and Green parties to prevent the Left Party from entering the Berlin state government. Wüst believes that political currents that, according to him, hold election campaigns together with “criminal groups and opponents of Israel” should not be allowed into government.

In another part of his remarks, the North Rhine-Westphalia prime minister also targeted the far-right Alternative for Germany party. In connection with the party’s victory in the election in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, he said that parties such as Alternative for Germany are united enemies of Germany and Europe. Wüst, in this regard, cited Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, and Donald Trump, the president of the United States, and said that members of the Alternative for Germany “repeat Putin’s words like parrots.”
