🔶 Victory for Democrats in the United States; a victory for the people of Iran or for the Islamic Republic?
🔻 Report by Mitra Shejaei
The victory of the Democrats in the midterm elections in the United States—one that many have called “historic”—shook up the political landscape of the country. Some have described it as “regime change” in the United States. In remarks unprecedented for him, J.D. Vance, Trump’s deputy, said that the main cause of the Republicans’ defeat was the war with Iran, and stated: «If you want to argue that this war was worth it and that losing the Senate for the next six years is also worth it, then just say that. Argue that paying such a price was worth it. Whether you agree or disagree, at least this position is honest.»
Trump also, in his first remarks on Wednesday after the Democrats’ decisive victory—and of course, to his surprise—largely agreed with J.D. Vance’s statements.
He said: «It’s largely true, because it caused gas prices to rise a bit.» At the same time, he again defended his decision to start this confrontation despite its heavy political cost, and added: «And yet, if I have to do it again, I’ll do it again.»
A look around in Persian-language social media, and at Telegram and WhatsApp groups in particular, shows that in this case too, as in other cases, there is no agreement and opinions are very different and sometimes contradictory.
