📸 Cartoon of the Week
While tensions between the Islamic Republic and the United States continue, Washington has increased pressure on Tehran with the aim of forcing the government to hand over its uranium reserves and accept a new agreement regarding the nuclear program. But in the meantime, people who have lost thousands of victims in the protests of 1404 are, almost every week, witnessing the executions of detainees who have been sentenced on charges of participating in the protests.
Meanwhile, some detainees are still awaiting the execution of their death sentences. People who have bent under the weight of relentless economic, social, and political pressures seem to have no place in these equations; their fate and their lives are neither a subject for negotiation nor even part of the parties’ calculations.
This has been the subject of Mana Nistani’s cartoon for this week.
