🔶 Oil pollution returns to the coasts of Qeshm and Hormoz
Oil-related pollution continues in parts of the Persian Gulf coasts, and efforts to clean the affected areas so far have not been able to prevent its return. Islamic Republic environmental officials say that restrictions caused by the war have reduced the activity of pollution-response vessels, making it difficult to collect oil materials before they reach the shore.
Eid Sadeghi, director general of the Office for Assessment and Countermeasures for Marine Pollutions at Iran’s Department of Environment, told the news website Rouydad24 that in recent days new pollutions have been observed on the shores of the islands of Qeshm and Hormoz.
According to him, about two weeks ago part of the coastline in the Torghān area on Qeshm Island became contaminated with oil materials. Although most of the pollution has been collected, its source has not yet been identified.
Sadeghi said he suspects that the leak of oil materials from damaged ships during the war may have caused this pollution.
On Hormoz Island as well, residues of oil materials have been observed in parts of the coast in the form of sticky, tar-like masses.
