UK prime minister: “Strong indications” of Iran’s link to the Ffreford base incident

🔸The UK prime minister says there are “strong indications” of Iran’s involvement in suspicious activity that took place late last week near the UK’s RAF Fairford airbase.

🔸Andy Burnham announced this on Wednesday, 8 Mehr, in an interview with the BBC, stressing that “complex, far-reaching and serious police investigations into the matter are still ongoing.”

🔸The Fairford air base in the southeast of the UK is home to a number of members of the United States Air Force and heavy U.S. bombers. Due to having a runway longer than three kilometers, this airbase is the only airport in Europe suitable for the landing and takeoff of heavy bombers such as the B-2, B-1, and B-52.

🔸During air strikes on Iran, the U.S. Air Force also used this airbase.

🔸Earlier, British counter-terrorism police arrested five men who had closed off the road leading to the base and who apparently had some amount of gasoline and explosive devices.

🔸The men—who were all British citizens and residents of London, aged between 23 and 25—were released shortly afterward on bail; however, British counter-terrorism police emphasized that this does not mean the investigations are over.

🔸On Monday, Iran had categorically rejected any connection to the incident.

🔸Andy Burnham emphasized that Britain and the United States are cooperating in the investigations into the incident.
