🔶 The United States sends another aircraft carrier to the Middle East
The newspaper “The Wall Street Journal” and the news website “Axios” simultaneously reported, citing U.S. officials, that the aircraft carrier “USS Theodore Roosevelt” left the port of San Diego on Sunday, September 27. According to these outlets, on Monday other ships as well—including an amphibious assault ship—headed toward the Middle East. Based on these reports, it is expected that the warships, fighter jets, Marines, and newly deployed sailors will reach the region by the end of November.
The United States currently has the aircraft carriers “USS George H. W. Bush” and “USS George Washington” deployed in the Middle East.
As written by The Wall Street Journal, if these two carriers remain in the region after the arrival of the third carrier, for the first time since April, three U.S. aircraft carrier strike groups will be present in the region at the same time.
Axios, citing a U.S. official, reported that it is not yet clear whether the USS Theodore Roosevelt will replace one of the other two carriers, or will be deployed in the region as the third carrier.
The Wall Street Journal has written that the United States will increase the number of its forces in the region by between 9,000 and 10,000 personnel.
