🔶 The German Army forms its first special drone unit
In response to its experience in the war in Ukraine, the German Army is forming, for the first time, a special drone battalion; a unit that will begin its work with about 300 soldiers and is expected to eventually reach 600 personnel.
In this regard, on Thursday, October 1 (Mehr 9), Boris Pistorius, Germany’s defense minister, announced the plan during a visit to the Bergen military training area in the state of Lower Saxony.
According to the German Army’s plan, the formation of this battalion will begin in 2027.
The war in Ukraine has played a decisive role in the German Army’s decision to create this unit. In this war, a large part of destructive impacts is carried out using drones, and the German Army now wants to incorporate this experience into its force structure.
Pistorius, referring to the importance of unmanned systems in ground warfare, said: “Anyone who wants to have an advantage in ground battle must be proficient in fighting unmanned systems.”
