🔶 Israel: Hamas’s slain commander was responsible for holding some of the hostages
The Israeli army said that Izzeddin al-Beeck, the commander of the Northern Gaza Brigade who was killed in an Israeli attack in the city of Gaza on Tuesday, September 29, was responsible for keeping a number of Israeli hostages.
The Israeli army says that after extensive intelligence investigations, it has been determined that al-Beeck oversaw the holding of a number of hostages. Mia Sham, Hisham al-Sayed, Amit Buskila, Shani Luk, and several other hostages were among the people, according to the Israeli army, who were under his responsibility.
According to the Israeli army and Hamas, al-Beeck took command of the Northern Gaza Brigade after the killing of Ahmad Ghandour, the former commander of the Northern Gaza Brigade, in November 2023. Before that, he was the head of intelligence for the Northern Gaza Brigade and the commander of the West Jabalya battalion.
The Israeli army has also claimed that in these roles, al-Beeck played a part in planning and financing attacks against Israelis and was one of the founding members of the “elite” forces of Hamas in northern Gaza.
Based on data from the Israeli army, al-Beeck also participated in the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel and played a role in the entry of Hamas forces into Israeli territory.
