🔻Iran’s foreign minister confirmed the presence of the Iranian delegation in Doha, but said that Iranian officials have no intention of meeting with the American side.
Hossein Amir-Abdollahian told Al Jazeera that the reports published about such a meeting are “nothing more than media speculation.”
Mr. Amir-Abdollahian also said that Iran has “carefully” reviewed the message from JD Vance, the U.S. vice president, in “high-level meetings.”
He emphasized that only after Washington agrees to Iran’s conditions will a decision be made about whether talks with the United States will be direct or indirect.
Meanwhile, as reports emerged of the Iranian delegation’s trip to Doha, the Qatari newspaper Al Arabiya Al Jadeed, citing sources close to the mediators, reported progress in negotiations between Tehran and Washington, and said that an American delegation would also arrive in Doha to hold “direct” talks with Iran.
The report came after 12-hour talks between Qatari mediators and Iranian officials, and after a report by the Axios website that the negotiations were continuing in Doha.
According to Axios, the Qatari mediators were in constant contact with the White House during the 12-hour meeting on Friday. 📸AFP via Getty Images
