🔸Gianni Infantino, president of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), after apologizing for how a controversial proposal to sell part of the commercial rights of this body’s competitions to private investors was pursued, was kept in his post with the support of FIFA’s senior executives.

🔸The decision was announced at the end of an emergency meeting of FIFA directors in Rabat, the capital of Morocco.

🔸Infantino on Wednesday, 14 Mordad, had summoned FIFA’s board members to the organization’s Africa office in Rabat, the capital of Morocco.

🔸He and Matias Grafström, FIFA’s secretary general, in a joint letter to 211 member federations, apologized for “mistakes” in the process of introducing the proposal and the way information about it was communicated, and pledged that such an incident would not happen again.

🔸FIFA also said that the aforementioned proposal has been completely shelved.

🔸FIFA had previously announced that it would establish a new company called FIFA Forward Enterprise, which would be responsible for the commercial activities of the World Cup and other competitions of this body.

🔸The plan was halted after widespread criticism, especially from UEFA and some European leagues. Critics accused FIFA of lacking transparency and bypassing governance procedures.
