🔶 Germany’s Islamic Council condemns attack on Berlin parade

Germany’s Islamic Council condemned a terrorist attack on the parade “Christopher Street Day” in Berlin. Borhan Kesiki, head of the council, said people have the right to live according to their lifestyle and to hold such events.

Kesiki, in an interview with Deutschlandfunk radio, said the views many Muslims have about homosexuality should be examined in light of religious beliefs and religious values, but at the same time there must also be the ability to coexist with diversity in society.

He also defended his previous remarks in a television interview, in which he had called homosexuality “unnatural,” and said he did not mean individuals, but spoke from the perspective of Islamic theology.

The head of Germany’s Islamic Council also praised the activities of mosques and Islamic institutions for preventing extremism, especially among young people.

After the terrorist attack in Berlin, some positions taken by Islamic institutions faced criticism. Critics say these institutions, in their statements, did not refer to the anti-homosexual and anti-queer motivations of the attacker.
