🔶 Egypt warns, Pakistan hopes: diplomacy under the shadow of war

Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s foreign minister, at the twenty-second edition of the Manama Security Conference (Manama Dialogue), held in Bahrain in late October, warned that if fighting between the United States and Iran is resumed, “its consequences will be far more devastating than what we have seen so far.”

He stressed: “We must learn from the past.”

At the Manama conference, a military spokesperson for Pakistan said that if there were no positive signs, General Asim Munir, Pakistan’s army chief, would not have traveled to Tehran twice in October.

Munir’s most recent trip, which took place with representatives of Saudi Arabia and Turkey, was on Monday, October 26.

The Pakistani spokesperson also warned that there are “disruptive and influential forces” who think that continuing this confrontation benefits them. He did not provide further details on the matter.

In recent months, Pakistan has played the main mediating role between Iran and the United States.

Qatar, too, this week presented a new proposal to resolve the crisis, though its details have not yet been released.
