🔶 Vance’s letter to officials of the Islamic Republic; diplomacy in the shadow of distrust

Abbas Araqchi, in an interview with Al Jazeera, said that Tehran does not see the need, in the current circumstances, for a direct meeting with representatives of the United States.

According to him, Iran’s situation is clear, and negotiations with intermediaries

According to the Iranian foreign minister, the Islamic Republic has received and reviewed a letter from JD Vance, the vice president of the United States.

He described the move as a “positive step” and, at the same time, warned the U.S. government not to make “another mistake.”

Iranian officials do not have trust in negotiations with the Donald Trump administration.

Earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported the sending of a letter from Vance to Mohsen Rezaei, the secretary general of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.

The purpose of the move was said to be providing the possibility of beginning negotiations and assessing whether planned military attacks against Iran could be ruled out through diplomacy.

The news site Axios, citing a U.S. government official, also reported that Vance has made Iran’s nuclear program a precondition for any talks.
