Behind the rise in the exchange rate in Iran, in conversation with Masoumeh Taherkhani

🔸 The dollar on the free market continues to move upward, and at the same time the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran says that a significant portion of the exchange-rate increase is due to uncertainty, psychological pressures, and market expectations, and is not fully consistent with the fundamental variables of the economy.

🔸 The Central Bank has also emphasized that its goal is not to defend a specific exchange rate, but that if necessary, to manage fluctuations it will use legal tools and intervene in the market. However, the question is: to what extent does the Central Bank’s claim about the non-fundamental nature of the current exchange rate match the realities of Iran’s economy? Economic analyst Masoumeh Taherkhani, based in London, has answered this question in an interview with Radio Farda.
