🔻 Program talks with Germany’s chancellor about countering Russian threats and cybersecurity

🔻 Andy Program, the prime minister of Britain, today holds talks with Friedrich Merz, the chancellor of Germany, about countering cyber threats and sabotage.

The Prime Minister’s Office in Britain announced that deeper cooperation in facing increasing threats from Russia will be one of the main topics of the talks during Mr. Program’s first official visit to Germany.

Intelligence agencies of both countries have warned about the increase in these threats; including last month, when Germany accused Russia of having launched an unmanned drone equipped with explosive materials toward Leipzig–Halle airport.

These talks take place in Berlin only a few days after the British prime minister, at the Labour Party conference, said he wants to put forward options for closer relations with the European Union toward the end of this year, including the possibility of rejoining the bloc.

A spokesperson for the German government said that any potential referendum about leaving or staying in the European Union would primarily be a matter for the UK, but Berlin supports stronger relations between Britain and the European Union.

The two leaders are expected to formally approve the 2025 ‘Treaty of Kensington’ on Thursday; an agreement that commits the two countries to counter hostile activities through further cooperation in areas including science, technology, defense, security, and economic growth.
