🔻More than $71 billion in funding is needed to rebuild Gaza over the next decade
🔻The United Nations and the European Union have estimated that $71.4 billion in funding will be required over the next decade to help improve and fully rebuild Gaza.
A report titled “Rapid Assessment of Damage and Needs” published in April says that $26.3 billion will be needed in the first 18 months to restore essential services, rebuild critical infrastructure, and support economic recovery. The report estimates that since the start of full-scale war in Gaza following the October 7 attacks, the amount of physical damage inflicted on the Gaza Strip was $35.2 billion, and $22.7 billion in economic and social damage has also been incurred.
Last month, Donald Trump’s “Peace Council,” the US president, announced a plan worth $2.45 billion for the reconstruction of Gaza, covering areas such as housing, diesel-fuel power generation, and waste collection.
The council has not yet set a date to begin rebuilding Gaza; a region where Trump’s plan to end the war has largely stalled, nearly a year after the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.
