An analytics company Kepler reported on Monday, July 3 (July 12) that two tankers carrying crude oil from Saudi Arabia passed through the Bab el-Mandeb strait on Saturday and Sunday. According to the company’s data, 18 cargo ships passed through the strait on Sunday, while the numbers on Saturday and Friday were 27 and 28 vessels, respectively.

According to Kepler, these two tankers, named “Lesbos,” carrying one million barrels of oil, and “Desh Vaibhav,” carrying two million barrels, left the Red Sea while turning off their automatic identification systems. The destination of the Lesbos tanker has not been determined, but the Desh Vaibhav tanker is heading toward Sikka port in India.

The two companies have not responded to Reuters’ request for comment.

Houthi militants, supported by the Islamic Republic, announced a “naval blockade” against Saudi Arabia on July 20.

Kepler’s data also show that vessel traffic in the Strait of Hormuz decreased on Saturday and Sunday, after reports of attacks on ships were published.
