🔶 Trump: We may soon declare the Strait of Hormuz as U.S. territory

Donald Trump, the president of the United States, said on Friday, 23 Mordad (14 August), in a speech in the U.S. state of New Jersey that after the end of the war with Iran, he intends to declare the Strait of Hormuz as U.S. territory. He did not provide further details on how he would carry out this decision.

Trump added that after completing what he called the “defeat of Iran,” he would soon declare the Strait of Hormuz as U.S. territory. He also claimed that Iran is currently being heavily defeated.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important oil and gas trade routes in the world and one of the main points of dispute between Washington and Tehran.

Some U.S. media reported that Donald Trump’s remarks about declaring the Strait of Hormuz as “U.S. territory” indicate neither an official decision nor an official policy of the U.S. government, and were more “in the nature of a joke.”

Kazem Qaribabadi, the deputy foreign minister of the Islamic Republic, reacted immediately to Trump’s remarks and said that this strait “has been Iranian, is Iranian, and will be Iranian.”
