The United States seeks to attract investment for a trade corridor between the Caucasus and Central Asia
🔸The Trump administration is seeking to turn an agreement shaped with Washington’s mediation between Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan into a regional transport corridor. If implemented, this route could link Central Asia and the South Caucasus to Western markets and also create opportunities for investment by American companies.
🔸Senior officials from the countries of the region and executives of more than 40 companies met on Wednesday, 1 Mehr, in New York to discuss the next steps of the “Trump route for peace and international prosperity,” or TRIPP.
🔸The meeting was held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly and with the participation of Steve Witkoff, the U.S. special envoy, Steve Daines, the Republican senator from the state of Montana, and officials from Armenia, the Republic of Azerbaijan, Georgia, and the five Central Asian countries.
🔸The main challenge now is to convert this political agreement into a practical project in transport, energy, and digital infrastructure. Construction has not yet started, and feasibility studies continue. It is also not expected that companies will enter bids for the main contracts before the end of 2026 or the beginning of 2027.
