🔸 The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the U.S. Treasury Department, by publishing a warning message, warned foreign financial institutions about any commercial cooperation with the Iranian government.
🔸 In this message, OFAC warned financial institutions that have continued to carry out transactions with Iranian sanctioned financial entities that “they may at any moment, and without prior notice, be targeted by sanctions.” The office asked these institutions to immediately take action to end such activities and relationships.
🔸 In the message, the U.S. Treasury Department, referring to the start of Washington’s economic pressure campaign on Iran known as “Operation Economic Exclusion,” pointed to sanctions on Iran’s shipping, digital, and technology industries and, with a review of actions taken in the past few weeks, including the sanctions on several banks in Turkey and the United Arab Emirates, said that foreign financial institutions that facilitate Iran’s access to the global financial system may be subject to not only sanctions, but also civil and criminal enforcement penalties.
