The United States and more than 50 other countries, in a joint statement, emphasized the continued implementation of UN restrictions and the prevention of the transfer of equipment related to the Islamic Republic’s nuclear, missile, and arms programs.
Mohammad Qaedi, a lecturer in international relations at George Washington University, said that this statement could link the “trigger mechanism” with the United States’ “maximum pressure” campaign and provide a basis for information sharing and inspection of shipments related to the Islamic Republic. He added that China and Russia’s opposition, and Beijing’s role in supplying goods with dual use for Tehran, could make the full implementation of this campaign difficult.
