Axios, citing three U.S. officials, reported that senior members of the government of Donald Trump, the president of the United States, on Friday, October 10, held discussions at an undisclosed meeting at Camp David with regard to the next steps in the war with the Islamic Republic and the conflict between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis.
The multi-hour meeting was chaired by J.D. Vance, the U.S. vice president, and attended by Marco Rubio, the secretary of state; Pete Hegseth, the secretary of defense; Steve Witkoff, a White House envoy; John Ratcliffe, the director of the CIA; and Gen. Dan Kin, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
One U.S. official said that at the meeting, “decisions were made—or at least extensive discussions took place”—regarding the Middle East crisis. Axios wrote that details of the possible decisions are unclear, and the White House has not commented.
According to Axios, as negotiations have stalled, Trump is considering resuming major military operations against the Islamic Republic.
Saudi Arabia has also asked the U.S. to join the planned operations against the Houthis and carry out airstrikes. U.S. officials said that so far Trump has not been inclined to participate in these operations, but his position may change.
