Mohammad Ghaedi, a professor of international relations, said that the statement by 56 countries against the Islamic Republic is attempting to link the path to the return of United Nations sanctions with the U.S. campaign of maximum pressure, and to expand the scope of economic and security pressure on Tehran.
He added that the importance of this statement is that it is not merely symbolic and could provide a basis for exchanging information about the Islamic Republic’s nuclear, missile, and drone programs, as well as inspections of shipments related to Iran. According to Ghaedi, China and Russia’s opposition to this process, along with China’s role in supplying goods with dual use applications for Tehran, could create challenges to the full implementation of this campaign.
