The New York Times, citing U.S. officials and people familiar with the matter, reported that the U.S. and Israeli militaries have planned for fresh attacks on Iran after the U.S. midterm elections, but the final decision of Donald Trump, the U.S. president, remains unclear.

As the newspaper wrote, the two armies are preparing short but intense operations and, with increased exercises and flights over Iraq, are rehearsing a possible attack. Pete Hegseth, the U.S. secretary of defense, also discussed the topic on a recent trip to Israel with Benjamin Netanyahu.

Nuclear facilities, the missile and drone arsenal, and some energy infrastructure are possible targets. Some U.S. planners believe a three-day operation could push Tehran to make diplomatic concessions, but there is doubt about the effectiveness of this strategy.

The New York Times wrote that the likelihood of launching an operation this month is low, and the deployment of U.S. forces and equipment—including three aircraft carriers, Marines, and fighter jets—will be completed by early November.
