🔶 The European Union aims to reach an immigration agreement with third countries by the end of this year

Alexander De Mrian, Germany’s interior minister and several other interior ministers of European Union member states intend to conclude agreements with third countries about returning asylum seekers who have had their applications rejected by the end of 2026.

This Christian Social Union politician said after a meeting in Copenhagen that technical-level negotiations with countries outside the European Union are currently underway.

It is not yet clear which countries the talks involve.

In addition to Germany, the interior ministers of Denmark, Greece, Austria, and the Netherlands also took part in the meeting. Magnus Brunner, the EU commissioner responsible for migration, also participated in these discussions.

In the European Union, legal changes have recently been made to make it possible to deport people to countries with which they have no connection.

However, these countries must agree to accept such individuals.
