🔶 Seven people were killed in an Israeli airstrike on southern Lebanon

In an Israeli airstrike on southern Lebanon in the early hours of Saturday, 24 Mordad (15 August), seven people were killed. The attack is among the deadliest since the “fragile ceasefire” was established between Israel and Hezbollah on 20 June this year.

Lebanon’s official news agency reported that the airstrike targeted a house on the outskirts of the village of Ansar, and rescue forces were still searching amid the rubble.

Lebanon’s Ministry of Health later said that among the seven killed were three children and two women. The ministry also said that two people were injured in the airstrike on Ansar.

On 26 June, Israel and the Lebanese government announced that they had reached a framework for an agreement under which Israeli forces would withdraw from southern Lebanon in exchange for Hezbollah’s disarmament, as well as Iran’s support for southern Lebanon.

Lebanon’s Hezbollah has rejected direct talks with Israel and did not take part in this agreement. The group has also opposed its disarmament.
