🔶 Record of attacks on commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz broken in October
According to data from the “Washington Institute for Near East Studies,” the most attacks on commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz since the start of the war have taken place in October. The institute reported on Saturday, 2 Aban (24 October) that it has recorded at least 28 confirmed attacks on ships in October. Accordingly, the number of reported attacks since the start of the war in February to date has reached 113.
These figures largely match the data of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), which has recorded 120 incidents since the start of the war. Based on the organization’s calculations, during the war, 3.5% of the world’s very large crude carrier (VLCC) fleet was targeted. The number of very large crude carriers in this fleet worldwide is more than 900.
The UK Maritime Trade Operations Centre (UKMTO) has also said that, up to 16 October, 135 reported incidents have been recorded and that not all attacks may be included in the figures published.
