🔻In a fresh intelligence note addressed to Marco Rubio, U.S. Secretary of State, it is stated that, based on assessments by this country’s intelligence agencies, “Iran has significantly increased its efforts to target diplomats and U.S. officials in the Middle East and other parts of the world, and its plans for deadly attacks have reached advanced stages.”
The note, dated October 23 and obtained by the Axios news website, was written by U.S. National Intelligence Director J. Clayton and addressed to Marco Rubio. The document warns that information related to Iran’s alleged plots should be shared with a larger number of U.S. government staff members; including individuals who may be at risk but currently do not have access to this classified information.
The one-page note does not mention the names of the people targeted, specific countries outside the Middle East, or details of the alleged plots.
According to Axios, U.S. officials say this information is one of the reasons behind the State Department’s decision to reduce the number of staff at U.S. embassies in several Middle Eastern countries. 📷U.S. Department of State / Axios/ AFP
