🔻Maryam Abdollahi, the wife of Rashid Mazaheri, reported that more restrictions have been imposed on him and that he has been transferred to solitary confinement following a protest over insults directed at Ferdowsi, the renowned Iranian poet. The former Iran national football team goalkeeper is currently held in Urmia Central Prison.

🔹In a post on her Instagram page, Maryam Abdollahi wrote: “After tremendous efforts, Rashid Mazaheri has faced everything from threats and torture to promises to provide a repentance letter. In a meeting at Urmia Central Prison, he objected to statements that were regarded as insulting the sage Abu al-Qasim Ferdowsi and calling into question the status of Babak Khorramdin and other historical heroes of Iran. After this protest, he was subjected to further restrictions and transferred to solitary confinement.”

🔹According to what she wrote, in prison they told him: “Ferdowsi was not in a normal state, and all of our Iranian heroes were the creations of this poet’s imagination. That is why Rashid did not stay silent and protested in defense of Iranian identity and authenticity.”

🔹Maryam Abdollahi called for Rashid Mazaheri’s situation in Urmia Central Prison to be clarified.
