🔶 Pakistan expresses optimism about reviving negotiations after Asim Munir’s trip to Tehran

Pakistani mediators announced on Tuesday, 3 Shahrivar (25 August), that following the end of Asim Munir’s trip—Pakistan Army commander—to Tehran, “considerable progress” had been made in negotiations to restore a peace agreement between the United States and Iran.

Mohsin Naqvi, Pakistan’s interior minister who accompanied Asim Munir on this trip, described his meeting with Masoud Pezeshkian, Iran’s president, in a post on X as “very positive and constructive.” Naqvi expressed hope that continuing this process would pave the way for “further progress and the establishment of lasting peace in the region.”

The Pakistan Army also said in a statement that the trip was carried out with the aim of “preventing the escalation of tensions, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and bringing an end to the war on a permanent basis.”

Before traveling to Tehran, Asim Munir had also held talks with Donald Trump, the U.S. president.
