A new wave of diplomatic efforts regarding the war in Ukraine has brought old peace proposals back to the table, including plans that require territorial concessions by Ukraine.

Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, has openly welcomed the idea of halting the fighting along the current front line, but has rejected the idea of ceding Donbas. Polls and media commentary suggest that many Ukrainians also share his view.

Zelensky also said he has received assurances that the United States will provide reliable security guarantees to Ukraine after the war. However, many Ukrainians, recalling the ineffectiveness of previous guarantees, doubt that such assurances would work in practice.
