🔻King of Jordan calls for a “steel fist” against perpetrators of attack on the Church of Kerak
King Abdullah II, the King of Jordan, has instructed the security forces of that country to deal with the perpetrators of an armed attack on a funeral ceremony at a church in the Kerak Governorate with a “steel fist.”
According to a statement from the Jordanian royal court, on Saturday King Abdullah, during a meeting of the country’s National Security Council, described Friday’s attack on the church as a “heinous and terrorist act,” stressing that regarding the lives of Jordanian citizens, no leniency is acceptable.
He also said that the security and lives of Jordanian citizens are a red line, and the perpetrators of this attack must be pursued.
Jordan’s security officials are still searching for the armed attackers who, on Friday, on 1 Aban, during a funeral ceremony at the Greek Orthodox Church in the Kerak Governorate, opened fire on those present.
In the attack, 9 people were killed and 40 others were injured.
So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The U.S. Embassy in Amman has also said that after the attack, security measures have been intensified at shopping centers, foreign embassies, and other places in Jordan.
