🔻Iran’s Ministry of Interior: We are looking to hold parliamentary and presidential elections at the same time

Iran’s Ministry of Interior has announced that it is seeking to hold the elections for the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majles) and the presidential election simultaneously.

Ali Zeynivand, the spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Interior, said that “a working group was formed to consolidate these two elections together, consisting of the Ministry of Interior, the Parliament Research Center, the Guardian Council, and the Expediency Discernment Council. They reviewed the matter and we found that it is possible to consolidate the elections without changing the Constitution.”

Mr. Zeynivand says: “No one has opposed this issue either. We are finalizing it so that, by obtaining more precise views from its relevant councils, we can submit it to Parliament in the form of a bill.”

The spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Interior expressed hope that, in Ordibehesht 1407, the Majles and presidential elections will be held simultaneously.

Under Iran’s current regulations, the next election for the Islamic Consultative Assembly is scheduled for Esfand 1406, and the presidential election is expected to be held in Khordad 1407.

The elections for the city and village councils, which were supposed to be held this spring, have been postponed due to wartime conditions.

Iranian officials said that these elections will be held two months after the end of the war.
