🔶 International Maritime Organization: 400 ships are still stuck in the Strait of Hormuz

The International Maritime Organization, affiliated with the United Nations, said on Saturday, August 29, that the situation of ships and seafarers trapped in the Strait of Hormuz remains unresolved.

Arsenio Dominguez, the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization, said that six months after the start of the war in Iran, 400 ships are still halted in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to him, about 6,000 seafarers are on these ships, and their situation remains unclear.

Dominguez said that the halt and disruption of important maritime transport routes have had an impact on the global supply chain for fuel, chemical fertilizers, and other raw materials.

He called on all member countries of the International Maritime Organization as well as the shipping industry to work to preserve freedom of passage through the Strait of Hormuz. In recent days, Iran has again emphasized that it has control over the Strait of Hormuz.

In contrast, the United States says the passage through this waterway is open. However, data published about the number of ships transiting shows that traffic along this route has continued to drop significantly.
