The U.S. State Department said on Thursday it welcomes the end of the third round of political reconciliation talks between Venezuela’s National Assembly in 2015 and the country’s interim government.

The U.S. State Department said the process “continues to strengthen democratic institutions” and “provides the ground for holding free, fair and credible elections” in this South American country.

Tamy Piggott, a spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, said in a statement that the United States still wants the immediate release of all political prisoners in Venezuela.
