In recent weeks, Gulf Arab countries have been able to restore their oil exports to pre-war levels by increasing the transit of oil tankers and making greater use of alternative routes; meanwhile, the continuation of the U.S. maritime blockade has kept Iran’s exports close to zero.

This development is taking place while Tehran had, since the beginning of the recent war, been trying to use the threat to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz as one of its main levers and, by creating disruptions in this strategic waterway, increase its bargaining power against the United States.
