🔶 Gharibabadi: Iran does not set its foreign policy based on U.S. elections
Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran’s legal and international affairs deputy to the Foreign Minister, said Tehran does not wait for the results of the U.S. midterm elections to determine its foreign policy.
He said on Tuesday, 12 Aban, on the sidelines of a ceremony unveiling the annual reports “Human Rights Violations in the United States and the United Kingdom,” that Iran “will adopt any decision it deems necessary for the sake of its national interests and security, at any time, without being influenced by external factors.”
Gharibabadi also, referring to the U.S. army’s attack on the island of Qeshm the night before, said that from Tehran’s perspective, the state of war continues and any retaliatory response by Iran would be “in line with legitimate self-defense.”
Several American media outlets, including The Wall Street Journal, Fox News, and Associated Press, reported, citing U.S. officials, that in the early hours of Tuesday, 12 Aban (3 November), after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces fired at an American fighter jet, the U.S. military targeted objectives on the island of Qeshm.
