🔶 Germany’s Army Supports the UN Mission in Haiti

Germany’s army intends to support the United Nations mission in Haiti. Germany’s Ministry of Defense announced that the country’s armed forces will “in the short term” provide airlift capabilities to help with the transfer of equipment and supplies.

The transfer operation is expected to take place “in the coming weeks.” The German army says that by providing air transport capacities, it will support countries including Kenya, Chad, Mongolia, Bangladesh, Guatemala, and Côte d’Ivoire. These countries have stationed troops on the ground for the UN mission in Haiti.

In a statement, the German army said that through this, it will play “an important role in the rapid stabilization of the country’s security situation” during a “decisive phase in the expansion of the mission.”
