🔶 Cambridge Analytica scandal; Meta was ordered to pay a $25 billion fine

Eight years after the Cambridge Analytica scandal over the misuse of Facebook users’ data, Meta was ordered to pay a $25 billion fine. A judge in Santa Fe, New Mexico, issued the ruling on Wednesday, October 21. According to CNBC, Meta intends to appeal the ruling.

Judge Francis Matto cited the “an unusually large number of willful violations” as the reason for the hefty fine. He also emphasized that this amount, until it is fully paid, will include an additional 15% interest per year.
