🔻The sound of an explosion in Iraqi Kurdistan was the result of “military exercises and security activities”

Counter-terrorism forces in Iraqi Kurdistan say that the sound of an explosion heard near Erbil airport was due to “military exercises and security activities” and that “they pose no danger.”

The airport hosts coalition forces led by the United States in Iraqi Kurdistan.

Local Kurdish media reported that the coalition led by the United States destroyed ammunition in the area.

One reporter with Agence France-Presse reported that they had witnessed gray smoke rising from near the airport.

The coalition forces led by the United States are expected to complete their withdrawal from Iraq by September 30 (8 Mehr) after the end of their mission against the Islamic State (ISIS).

They previously left other bases in Iraq in January and had also begun the process of withdrawing from Iraqi Kurdistan. At present, they are stationed only at Erbil airport.
