🔺 Biggest crypto theft in history: $6.3 billion taken from Binance

▪Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, announced on Thursday, the 7th of Aban, that a security breach has caused damage estimated at $6.3 billion. Experts call this theft the biggest in the history of cryptocurrency.

▪The American company TRM Labs attributed the attack “with high confidence” to a unit of elite hackers from North Korea and wrote that the basis for its assessment is “reliable information both inside and outside the chain.” The attacker withdrew about $6.36 billion from Binance wallets across 10 blockchain networks, most of it in roughly 20 minutes.

▪Initial investigation suggests the incident began with a hack of a laptop belonging to one of Binance’s engineers. Binance has temporarily halted deposits and withdrawals.
