Ted Cruz, the Republican U.S. senator, said in a message on the social media platform X that he spent the previous day with Donald Trump, the U.S. president, and discussed with him threats arising from the Islamic Republic government.
Cruz wrote: “I spent all of yesterday with President Trump. He wants the threat from the government of Iran to be addressed. I asked him to arm Iranian protesters to overthrow the government.”
The Republican senator did not specify what response Trump gave to his proposal, or whether the U.S. government is considering such an action.
